Lawrence Jangala Watson was born in Yuendumu in 1962 and was one of the youngest male artists working with Warlukurlangu Artists in the early 1990s. He began painting in 1988 depicting Ngapa (Water) and Yankirri (Emu) dreamings of his lineage. He began exhibiting in 1989, and in as little as a year his work was included in Tigari Lia, Contemporary Aboriginal Art from Australia at the Third Eye Centre in Glasgow, Scotland. His work combines elements of the elders approach such as asymmetrical layouts, with an exuberant exploration of the stylistic possibilities of Western Desert art.
